Aspen (8-11 November 2010)

It’s a gorgeous and quaint city – very spacey and surrounded by mountains.  When we arrived the sky was blue and the mountains were capped with snow.  The following morning the sky was full on white and snow was falling. If you’ve never seen snow before it definitely has that “OMG WOW” factor (x) 1 million times.  Felt like Christmas :O)

The trees, cars, buildings and roads outside the Mountain Chalet we were staying at looked like it was iced with fluffy white icing.  AMAZING!!!  It took a while for it to sink in that it was really snowing.  Unfortunately we were 3 weeks too early for skiing :O(

Due to the weather our road trip to Crested Butte and training at the Dojang there had to be postponed (so so disappointed).  As always we had a Plan B and that was to stay and explore Aspen.  We visited the most photographed placed in the USA i.e. Maroon Bells and it was beautiful (that word probably doesn’t do it much justice)...  It apparently looks even more extraordinary during the summer time.

Some places of interest to check out are: The Red Onion restaurant, a historic and iconic building established back in 1892.  Try the Elk Burger (seriously!)  There is also a T-Shirt shop that has the funniest slogans printed on them.

If you like space, mountain scenery and fresh air – Aspen has it!!!  LOVED IT!!!  Be aware, the altitude will hit you – the city is approximately 12,000 feet above sea level ;O)
